This is my first attempt to design a knitting pattern.
I made this neck warmer for my daughter. She is still a child but in the process of defining her identity. She created this persona and called herself Jeremy.
At this moment, I don’t know what to tell you. She is no longer the little girl who loves pink and all the princesses. But she’s not quite a tomboy either.
I think this is a journey for both of us. I am trying to find a path to my crafts while she is just finding herself.
Materials
1 skein of Bernat Satin Solids
Colour: Dandelion
Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows with an US 8 (5 mm) knitting needle
Abbreviations
i-cord cast on
-
- Cast 4 stitches using long tail cast on
- k4
- Slip 4 stitches from the right needle to the left needle without twisting
- p1, wyib k1b tbl, k3
- Repeat step 3 and 4 until there are 48+3 stitches
- Slip 4 stitches from the right needle to the left needle
- k2tog twice
- Slip 2 stitches from right needle to the left needle
i-cord bind off
s1 wyib
Slip 1 with yarn in the back
s1 wyif
Slip 1 with yarn in the front
k1 tbl
Knit 1 through the back loop
p1 tbl
Purl 1 through the back loop
k1b tbl
Knit 1 below through the back loop
Pick up the stitch below, and knit through the back loop
one row button hole

Pattern Instructions
i-cord cast on 48 stitches
Row 1 (Right side): s1 wyib, k1, k4, (k1 tbl, p2, k1 tbl, k4)*5, s1 wyib, p1
Row 2 (Wrong side): s1 wyib, p1, p4, (p1 tbl, k2, p1 tbl, p4)*5, s1 wyif, p1
Repeat row 1 and 2 until piece measures approximately 23 inches from cast-on edge, ending on wrong side.
Buttonhole Row (Right side): s1 wyib, k1, k4, (k1 tbl, p2, k1 tbl, one buttonhole with 4 stitches) * 3, k1 tbl, p2, k1 tbl, k4, s1 wyib, p1
Repeat from Row 2 until about 1 inch from the buttonhole row.
i-cord bind off.
