I am not particularly good at picking up gifts for people. Especially for my husband: it is not easy to keep on surprising him year after year.
This Christmas, I decided to make a Dude Hat.
I tried to watch The Big Lebowski with him but gave up: it’s just not my type of movies. But the sweater caught my eyes.
Now, my husband doesn’t really like handmade stuff. And I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of time only to make something he’s not going to wear. So I decided to make a beanie for him.
I took the pattern from The Dude Hat (Big Lebowski) by FogKnits and made some changes so it would fit into a typical beanie.
I started with Tillybuddy’s Very Stretchy Cast On and then k1 p1 ribbing to about 5″ from the cast on edge.
Then I started to knit in pattern.
Because it is a beanie so there isn’t much room for after the pattern is completed. I then started to divide to stitches into 6 sections. In each section, I used k2tog to decrease a stitch in each round until there are 6 stitches left in total (1 stitch in each section).
Then I bind off by weaving the end.
It was a good laugh when my husband saw the hat.
